2008/9 Season [18 Dec @ 12:32pm]

December - We learned we had two grant applications accepted from youthbank. One is £2500 for new aluminium goalposts. The other is £1500 for professional plan drawings of our proposed new clubhouse and changing facilities to be produced. Also the council dressing rooms, which are used by our junior team have started being painted by Dean.

Summer 2008 [18 Dec @ 12:32pm]

A massive effort from Tony, Norman, Phil and newly arrived Dean and Duncan saw the ground take shape and look better than it ever has since Fives took occupancy. The work completed this summer was; PITCH - With drainage a problem, there was lots of bald patches on the pitch where grass had cut up last season. Rather than planting seed, turf was laid on about 6 different sections of the pitch. The pitch was cut weekly over the summer to provide a lush surface come the start of the season. The outfields were also kept low with all holes filled in and weeds and dead plants removed. The area underneath the handrail was all strimmed, where the lawnmower can't access HANDRAIL - Approximately 70% of the handrail was replaced with new tube. A gate was installed for the lawnmower to access the pitch. The full handrail was painted GATES - The main gates at the entrance of the ground were painted green with gold lettering. A new gate was installed in the fence at the back of the ground to access the council pitches and dressing rooms. This was also painted. FENCE - The main problem at our ground is vandalism therefore extra provision has to be made regarding security. The fence at the back of the ground had sections of panels welded and damaged handrail was used to weld to the fence for extra protection. The main gates had to be closed off with new fence panels because of people getting on the pitch and vandalising things, especially walking their dogs on the pitch! CONTAINER - With the vandalism problem we have to put the goalposts and dugouts away when they aren't being used. Therefore we needed somewhere to put them. A 20ft steel container from Tony's yard was brought to site for us to store things in. Before the container came we had to build a hard standing area with stone and compact it for the container to sit on. This was all fully painted aswell with a steel box welded to the back so the 24ft long crossbars would fit in. With all this achieved we had something to be proud of at the start of the season. Everything was done by ourselves, mainly with equipment supplied by Tony and all at evenings and weekends within the space of about 2 months. With more volunteers twice as much could be done in summer 2009! We need your help!!!
